Mark Morris Dance Group: Pepperland Tickets

London Ballet & Dance
Mark Morris Dance Group: Pepperland
In 1967, one of the best-selling albums of all time was released: The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. 50 years later, Mark Morris Dance Group, renowned for their commitment to live music, took on the challenge of producing work inspired by the experimental studio album that famously couldn’t be performed live. Forming the perfect environment for Mark Morris’ witty and heartfelt choreography, his frequent collaborator, Ethan Iverson, creates new orchestrations to be played alongside original, Pepper-influenced pieces by an unprecedented ensemble of voice, theremin, soprano sax, trombone, keyboards and percussion.

From my perspective as a big dance and choreography fan, the performance was outstanding /stunning and the musical score also. Loved every minute...but show only 1 hour long (which we didn’t know at booking point) and our following on arrangements were severely upset as a result. Further misleading from advertising was in regard to Beatles music, a probable hook. It was there but not in the way or quantity expected. I loved the whole thing but my husband, a huge Beatles fan, was disappointed. Finally we paid a discounted price of £32 pp. At the full price of virtually double, one hour seems very pricey.

Lovely costumes, brilliant dancing, imaginative choreography. Great to have a live orchestra. Couldn't understand how the jazz pieces fitted in, although they were very good. Surprised it was just one hour.

Loved the dancing. Would even have liked it to last longer!

We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of "Pepperland" - the colours, the energy, the stage set with its shiny low backdrop, and the incredible dancing. It was a delightful treat for us all!

It was enjoyable but did not stand on its own as a complete show. It could have been shortened and put as part of a triple bill. There was a lot of repetition and it was barely an hour long. Quite pricey tickets for what it was.
