London Ballet & Dance
Ukrainian ballerino Sergei Polunin prances his way to the West End with a new mixed programme
Ballet star Sergei Polunin will present a new mixed programme at the London Palladium from 28 May to 1 June 2019. The programme will feature an international cast and creative team, including Polunin himself. The Box Office will open at 10.00am on Friday 14 December. Full casting and programme details will be announced early next year. Having previously danced with distinguished ballet companies, Sergei Polunin is now focused on putting on shows and developing projects worldwide, through collaborations with different artists, and giving them the platform to create and show their work to people around the world. Since his rise through the ranks of ballet – becoming a Principal Dancer of the Royal Ballet at the age of 19 and, at the invitation of Igor Zelensky (Ballet Director at Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich), Sergei is now also Guest Principal at Staatsballett in Munich – Sergei has sought to expand into the realm of acting and other creative endeavours. Sergei’s story was made the subject of the documentary feature film Dancer. He made his on-screen acting debut in Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express, followed by Francis Lawrence’s Red Sparrow alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton, and he can be seen in Ralph Fiennes’s The White Crow, based on the true story of Russian ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev’s defection to the West. Sergei's Take Me To Church video, directed by David LaChapelle and set to the music of Hozier, has now amassed over 25 million views. Earlier this year, Sergei and renowned photographer Rankin collaborated to produce the dance video Sergei x Rankin set to a soundtrack by art-rock trio Husky Loop. Sergei again collaborated with Hozier this autumn for a video of Hozier’s new single, Movement.

First solo and Scriabiniana left my hairs standing on end, I was completely enthralled. Satori was really stimulating and divided our opinions, however the final scene was truly life affirming! Wonderful humans

I have had my tickets since they first went on sale as I think Sergei isa wonderful dancer. We went last night. I was so disappointed. It felt like we were watching the rehearsal - not even the dress rehearsal. What a shame. Go to the opera house and see ballet there - I am sure you will enjoy it much more.

Disappointed. Good dancers very good dancers. Choreography not imaginative. Cliches . stage sets of second half second rate. Smoke effects , colours etc.. child dancer touching. Beautiful technique of dancers not enough emotions.

Very poor, very upset about prices for the tickets, including horrible commission. Never again with you.You require 25% commission of the fair value price

Amazing energy and wonderful dancing. Very strange modern music at times and as I didn't buy a programme I wasn't too sure what all the various scenes were about. However, I loved the last Act - amazing story beautifully danced and told. Fabulous show and what an amazing dancer he is, along with his partner Osipova.

A totally stunning and wonderful evening. It finished far too early (I am being selfish because I am sure that the dancers would have been totally exhausted). My daughter and I loved it.

Wonderful show delivered by fantastic dancers. Sergie was just amazing

Beautiful dance, the second half outstanding and sublime.

The performance had the look and feel of a self-indulgent vanity project by a dancer who could have been great, but who squandered his considerable talent. The show never really got off the ground, and Polunin's dancing was underwhelming.

So the ballet was contempary and interesting. The cast showed the beauty of the human body and all its movements expressively shown to often dramatic music. The cheap seats at the back of the theatre had excellent clear views .l can recommend the evening.lt was excellent but not quite totally genius. So much more to come from these stars l think.watch the future.

    Amazing! Simply amazing! Wonderful performance!

The first part was brilliant,, all the dancers excellent and superb. I didn't like the second part as much as I found it difficult to "understand" and they were obviously trying to convey a story.

Great dancers, brilliant technique, but the show was little boring. I came to London mainly to see him dancing and I was disappointed! The first solo was a joke; only 7 m? The 2nd performance was nice, but I haven't seen the passion I sas expecting. The 3rd one was interesting and lyric, but....

A brave project -not entirely sure that it worked . Personally I would have preferred the Sunday programme !! Wonderful dancing , of course and particularly to see Sergei and Natalya together. Having said that it was much enjoyed and a chance to see what an extraordinary dancer Polunin is . I found the whole programme rather too "angst ridden " for me . Would have preferred something happier ?!
