Amour Tickets

London Musical
Michel Legrand's hit Broadway musical Amour receives its long-awaited UK premiere at London's Charing Cross Theatre this summer.
Paris, 1950 - a shy, unassuming civil servant, Dusoleil, lives alone and works diligently in a dreary office. To pass the time, he writes letters to his mother and daydreams about the beautiful Isabelle, who is kept locked away by her controlling husband. When Dusoleil miraculously gains the ability to walk through walls, he not only begins to lead a double life, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor to right the wrongs of his war-impoverished Parisian neighbours, but also gains the self-confidence to woo Isabelle and, just for a while, live the life he has always longed for. AMOUR, a musical fantasy about daring to dream and the power of self belief, has music by multi award-winning Michel Legrand with English lyrics by Jeremy Sams (from the original French by Didier Van Cauwelaert). Adapted from the 1943 short story Le Passe-Muraille by Marcel Aymé, AMOUR opened on Broadway in 2002 and was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Cast to be announced. Creative team: Director Hannah Chissick, Choreographer Matt Cole, Production Designer Adrian Gee, Lighting Designer Rob Halliday, Sound Designer Andrew Johnson, Musical Director Jordan Li-Smith, Producer & Casting Director Danielle Tarento

Excellent production! The interwoven movement of the actors through me in immediately. The quality of the singing and acting was excellent, and the lighting, props and costumes were all really fitting. A great show.

This show is simply beautiful. The cast is incredibly talented, the music is captivating and sounds magical, the use of the space and the props is very well thought out and it makes you really pay attention to what you're watching.

As good if not better than some of the more well known shows

Although the beginning was a bit strange - good show in the end! Makes you meditate on the hidden power of the unconscious mind.

Great music, song and cast where you can actually understand what they sing about. Really involving story and so close to the public, one feel truly immersed. Loved it

We both had a very enjoyable evening and the lyrics proved to be a real treat. The cast proved to be very professional and we will look forward other productions you put on.

Ridiculous story but lovely music very well performed by talented cast who worked hard. Thanks for the show. Love the intimate theatre and proximity to stage

The music and the musicians were extraordinary And the stage direction with so little accessories is perfect What a change from big productions And really that’s what theater is about magic with little effects

Having seen and very much enjoyed Titanic at the Charing Cross Theatre previously, my friend and I drove up from Berkshire to see Amour last night. This morning I have read Jeremy Sams' article in the programme and now understand better the concept behind the production, which he describes as a modest chamber piece. It was not at all what we were expecting, having read the promotion, and we were not enamoured (pun not intended!) My friend found the songs disappointing and had expected more from Michel Legrand. I think you lost us from the start as we did not understand the opening "Ba" song. The slight story wasn't put over strongly enough to hold it together and grab our attention. (The man in front of us didn't come back for the second half, which was more enjoyable than the first.) The plus factors as far as we were concerned: all the voices were good; the characters were well portrayed and we enjoyed Laura Barnard; we appreciated the skill of setting scenes with the use only of chairs, cases and umbrellas and especially enjoyed the clever method of moving Passe Partout along a pathway of chairs; and admired his control when he stood immobilised with his hand out when stuck in the wall; we liked the layout of the seats. We also appreciated the Band (I notice you call it a Band and not an Orchestra) and watching the pianist on the TV screen. Of course, the tickets are very cheap (we went along to the Playhouse Theatre and paid £75. for tickets for Fiddler), which makes up for the fact that the theatre doesn't offer 50% discount on parking fees with a validated theatre ticket. We come up to the West End several times a year to see the shows and it is interesting to see a variety of musicals and plays. However, this is not one that we would recommend to friends. Sorry! I loved everything about it. The dialogue was very funny, music beautiful and actors superb. It was very engaging and had a real feel good atmosphere about it. I am going to book tickets for family coming to London for a visit at the beginning of June.
