Inspired by the life of Nina Simone, Black Is The Color Of My Voice follows a successful jazz singer and civil rights activist seeking redemption after the untimely death of her father. She reflects on the journey that took her from a young piano prodigy destined for a life in the service of the church, to a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement. ‘Campbell may wear Simone's trademark head wrap, but her performance goes beyond impersonation.’ ★★★★ The Times ‘Nothing short of sensational… Campbell will make you cheer for her, smile with her and then sting your eyes with tears’ ★★★★★ Broadway Baby ‘Compelling and heartbreaking story, punctuated with bursts of song.’ ★★★★ Edinburgh Festival Magazine ‘Campbell transfixed, she charmed, she entertained and ultimately moved a packed theatre with her touching portrayal of the jazz musician.’ Smart Shanghai

I thoroughly enjoyed this production. Nine Simone's songs powerfully conveyed the troubled times of the black civil rights movement in America.

This show is absolutely moving and touching. Apphia sings so well and her voice was just so powerful. We love Nina obviously but Apphia's interpretation of her songs and life is beautiful, it really showed how Nina used her talent to protest against injustices.

The production and story was great. But we were so uncomfortable! Don't think we realised how small the studio was. Squashed inbetween 2 other people, as you have to share pull down seats.
