London Musical

This joyous new musical adaptation of Sue Townsend‘s best-selling book The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ -The Musical arrives in London for a strictly limited season! A timeless tale of teenage angst, family struggles and unrequited love, told through the eyes of tortured poet and misunderstood intellectual Adrian Mole. One of the most enduring comedy characters of all time, he’s the hapless, hilarious, spotty teenager who captured the zeitgeist of 1980s Britain. With an infectious score and a script as sidesplittingly outrageous as the original novel, this critically acclaimed production brings Adrian’s story to life for a new generation of theatregoers. Book and lyrics by Jake Brunger, music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary, directed by Luke Sheppard. Set in 1980s Leicester, Sue Townsend's The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4, follows the daily dramas and misadventures of Adrian's adolescent life. With dysfunctional parents, ungrateful elders, a growing debt to school bully Barry Kent and an unruly pimple on his chin, life is hard for a misunderstood intellectual who is only 13 3/4... To top it off, when new girl Pandora joins the class and captures his heart, his best friend Nigel steals hers. Can Adrian win her love and escape from his chaotic family life?

Amazing script, score and cast. Fantastic singing especially from the kids. Laughed all way through, thank you Sue Townsend!

Great energetic performances and excellent live music. For the price of the tickets I did expect it to be longer so was disappointed a little.

I came with my two teenage sons. We are all big fans of the Adrian Mole books. The cast were excellent-each one just as we imagined them. Parts were hilarious and parts quite sad. It was true to the first book and I think Sue Townsend would have loved this production.

This musical is well written and presented. The talented cast worked hard to give a great performance. Although a small theater, this gives a good atmosphere and enhances the enjoyment. A thoroughly enjoyable show.

Really funny; it's not Shakespeare, but if you liked the books you'll have a great time.

Like so many people in the audience I had read the original umpteen years ago and wanted to see how it had been transformed for the stage. I was not disappointed! It was funny and sad in equal measure, as was the book, and beautifully performed by the cast. It had the edge of ridiculousness too which played up the humour with which Sue Townsend brilliantly endowed the book and the life of Adrian. The cast were tremendous - not a flaw anywhere in the production. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening - bringing back so many memories.

Fantastic acting, fast moving full of surprises and laughs, very entertaining

The show was very funny in places, mostly when the man character, Adrian, was 'reading' from his diary and I chuckled away quite happily. The rest of the cast were also brilliant. I was amazed by John Hopkins' very funny roles and performance, having often seen him on TV in a straight role, even costume drama, (more recently Poldark). At the risk of sounding contradictory, as it is a musical comedy set in the 1980s, there was a little bit too much of Fame-style dancing and choreography. The theatre staff were all friendly and helpful. lastly, the price of a small bottle of beer @ £7.50 is exorbitant!

Great kids and lots of energy from the whole cast. Just wasn’t our type of musical. Lovely small theatre.

Great show. Loved the characters who played multiple roles. The theater was HOT but staff was great and super friendly.
