Beryl Tickets

London Play
Tickets to Beryl, the true story of the greatest woman on two wheels.
by Maxine Peake Directed by Marieke Audsley Meet Beryl Burton, the greatest woman on two wheels, in this trailblazing tale from actor and writer Maxine Peake. Beryl Burton MBE, OBE – twice World Road-race Champion, five times World Pursuit Champion – was never meant to cycle. Aged 11, a serious illness left her with a weakened heart. Doctors warned against strenuous exercise for the rest of her life. Aged 30, branded ‘the Yorkshire housewife’ and with no financial sponsorship, she became the first sportswoman in history to break a men’s competitive record. Featuring a host of unforgettable characters and a great big dollop of Northern wit, Maxine Peake’s freewheeling play is the extraordinary true story of a woman who pushed at the limits, took on the status quo – and won.

Brilliant production, great show. Would have preferred a 7:30 start. Funky intimate theatre.

Brilliant (much) lesser known story fabulously acted and brought to light with comedy in an intimate setting. This production was so alive!!

What an absolute treat. A play clearly written with a passion for the subject and love for Yorkshire. Brilliantly acted with all 4 actors putting in 5* performances but Mark Conway the top performer with impeccable comedy timing. Go to see this show.

I loved this play, very clever adaptation with 4 brilliant actors playing all the roles in such a small cute setting. The story is so worth telling - everyone should know about Beryl Burton. Take it around schools as an inspiration about what can be achieved with so little

Very enjoyable play, actors excellent and engaging, I liked the combination of telling the story and acting it. Very funny at times too. I enjoyed also being in a small venue, close to the stage, intimate. It's my first time at the Arcola Theatre, I don't live in London but I'll keep an eye on what's on for future visits.

Fabulous show-very funny but enlightening - why haven’t we heard of Beryl Burton before? Intimate theatre space worked really well. Inspirational for our teenage daughters and for ourselves.

I have not enjoyed a play for so long and laughed so much as Beryl , the 4 actors were sensational and made for there parts. Well done Maxine Peake. 10 stars.

Good to see a show from a northern theatre bringing the skills of small-scale staging to London. A very strong, talented cast provide a very entertaining and likeable production.

The play was great, but if you check your records you will see that the ticket that i purchased was not collected. This is because a friend had bought me a ticket. It is a shame that I could not get a refund. Not value for money as i paid twice!

Don't miss this little gem. Funny, engaging and informative. Great performances and clever clever staging making you realise that great things can be achieved in the smallest of ways with a huge dash of ingenuity. Go see it!

The best show I have seen in a long time; ever, maybe. Creative, intelligent and really informative. Loved it!

Venue was lovely and intimate Performance was brilliant Bar staff slow, lethargic and very miserable. They need a kick up the a***!

Very enjoyable, well- staged so that the space became part of the performance, and beautifully acted. Very poignant at the end. I had heard Maxine Peake’s play on Radio 4 and enjoyed it very much, and really enjoyed this staged version. Only downside: no coffee in your cafe!

Very imaginative energetic play and instilled much empathy for Beryl the main character. It had a positive feel good factor in a time of doom and gloom.
