London Play
Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s new play Emilia transfers to the West End from Shakespeare’s Globe
1609 I AM EMILIA. Writer. Wife. Lover. Mother. Muse. I am unheard. I want education, equality, opportunity, respect. For us all. We want choice. We want a voice. 2019 WE ARE EMILIA. 400 years ago Emilia Bassano wanted her voice to be heard. It wasn’t. Her story is still our story. Emilia and her sisters reach out to us across the centuries with passion, fury, laughter and song. Listen to them. Let them inspire and unite us. Times are finally changing. Not fast enough. It’s up to you. We are all Emilia. Stand up alongside her and be counted.

I thought this was an excellent play. Brilliabtly written and acted. The cast was quite superb and engaging. Emilia's struggles were/ are timeless and the contemporary nature of them came over so well which must have left the audience asking ,"what has really changed for women". I am familiar with her poems as I was researching several years ago evidence of feminist christian writing in the early centuries and came across her. How good she has been brought to light in the way she has. I am bringibg my granddaughters to it and have faccebooked my friends too. Congratulations to Morgan Lloyd Malcolm. That last speech was mind blowing. Thank you.

Exceptional performance and play. A must see for all.

Wasn’t sure if I would like this performance as I am not a fan of Shakespeare. However the play was brilliant and the all female cast were outstanding. Loved the modern twist throughout the play, it was funny, thought provoking and inspirational. The bar service before the performance and in the interval was very efficient no long queues like most theatres. I sat in the grand circle and had a excellent view.

Fabulous play, incredibly powerful, with excellent and innovative use of space.

Like a bad school production. Actors shouting & screeching as if they were still outdoors at the Globe; trying to ingratiate themselves with the audience by clambering into boxes and along rows; overacting & flouncing around. The audience seemed to love it. My friend and I left at half- time. £40 wasted.

An enjoyable play that covered women's place with anger and wit, brilliantly played. Just wish the trend for live music while cast members are talking would stop - how many millions have hearing loss and like me have difficulty hearing the words at that point?

What an incredible, powerful, important show. If only the price of admission were more reasonable, given how vital this message is.

Most reviews dont seem to focus on how really funny this play can be. I love the portrayal of Shakespeare as some form Elizabethen pop celebrity and while the anachronisms initially surprised me after a while I settled into the flow and had a really good night at the theatre. As an.old bloke who describes himself as a pro feminist it was wonderful to see the theatre packed with young women who not only seemed to be enjoying the play but also discussing its messageimplications during the interval.

A must see piece of theatre! An important story with laughs!

A brilliantly original new play exploring issues that affect us all about the subjugation of women throughout history. Beautiful directed, designed and acted by a stellar cast of extremely skilled and experienced female actors. Highly recommended. NB You might consider constructing a more suitable feedback form that's tailored for theatre rather than internet shopping. If you click on 'rate more attributes' it suggests commenting on battery life and cleanliness. I'm sure there's a more thorough and specific way of canvassing feedback for a theatre show.

all female cast doing what male actors would have done in Shakespeare time

Absolute cracker of a show! Challenging in places, but worth it. About time we knew Emilia's & others like her's, stories.

Inspiring, moving and a show which will educate all genders! #iamemilia

Emilia was a excellent show, entertaining, engaging, full of humour but also a serious subject a cast of all women playing different characters that brings women struggles throughout the times but also brings women empowerment to the attention, great performances. I couldn’t recommend more, I’d watch it again!
