Nigel Slater’s Toast Tickets

London Play
Nigel Slater’s Toast makes its long-awaited London premiere at The Other Palace.
Based on the British Book Awards Biography of the Year, ‘Toast’ is the story of Nigel Slater’s childhood, told through the tastes and smells he grew up with. From making the perfect sherry trifle to waging a war over cakes and from the pressured playground politics of sweets to the rigid rules of restaurant dining, this is a story of love, loss and…toast. Reviews of ‘Toast – the Story of a Boy’s Hunger’ ‘Emotions, memory and taste buds. Genius.’ – Lynne Truss ‘He recreates with moving honesty and laugh-out-loud comedy the hopes and fears of boyhood. Remarkable.’ – The Observer

Entertaining and poignant. Loved the food samples! and the aromas. Brilliant choreography and timing. Loved the quizz about the male/female sweets??. Theatre seats a bit uncomfortable.

the staging and cast were fabulous, however the 'interactive element' meant that I frequently had theatre staff walking around behind me (row n) which was incredibly distracting

Didn’t know what to expect, but Theatre is a delight and very ‘up close and personal (row C, tho’ wouldn’t want to have been much closer as you’d virtually be sitting with your knees on the stage). The actors were brilliant and loved the ‘here’s one I made earlier’ idea with the baking. Also loved the sweet treats, which made it a very interactive performance. Hadn’t read the book so didn’t know the story, so much respect to Nigel Slater for getting where he is today. Highly recommend.
