The Snail and the Whale Tickets

London Play
The Snail and the Whale comes to the Apollo Theatre to take us on an adventure around the world!
Are you ready to set sail this Christmas? Join an adventurous young girl and her seafaring father as they reimagine the story of a tiny snail’s incredible trip around the world, inspired by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved picture book. Longing to see the world, a tiny sea snail hitches a lift on the tail of a great big, grey-blue humpback whale. Together they go on an amazing journey, brought vividly to life through live music, storytelling and lots of laughs - but when the whale gets beached, how will the snail save him? A heart-warming adventure for everyone aged four and up, from Tall Stories, the Olivier Award-nominated company that brought you ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘Room on the Broom’ live on stage. Suitable for ages 4+ only. "Captivating, inventive storytelling" Edinburgh Festival for Kids "Delightful, Funny and Imaginative" The Independent "An exquisite piece of theatre" The Stage

I was very dissapointed in the Snail and the whale show. As it didnt actually tell the story at all. They spent 20mins trying to put the daughter to bed, and the rest of the time the father and daughter were playing around. All the children around me were not engaged and barely watching the show as they didn't recognise the story. It was also unecessarily sad the fact that the father worked far away and then the end of the story felt he had passed away. It like we watched a different story. I wish i could get my time and money back.

I thought it was very well done. Took my niece and Great niece aged 3 and a half and they lived it also! Good into to theatre for youngsters! Good idea to make use of afternoons in theatres with matinees for families!

If you love Julia Donaldsons stories you’ll love this. A sweet twist in the way the story is told. A talented cast. A pleasant ear worm. Plus the staff at the theatre were all super lovely. We took a 4, 5, 6 and 8 year old and they all loved it

Was not what we expected, not very colourful or like the book. The actors were very jolly but the show was not for snail and the whale fans.

We went to see The Room on the Broom last year which was brilliant so decided to see The Snail and the Whale this time round. For us, we was expecting more of a literal adaptation, so was a little disappointed because of the metaphorical slant to the performance. If you're OK in watching something that sways away from the actual story, give it a go.

Brilliant - both my 5year old and 2 year old were mesmerized the whole time. They laughed, cheered and couldn’t stop talking about it after!

Really clever adaptation and stuck closely to the text which was good!

Briliant show which both children and parents can enjoy. We had so much fun.

Phenomenal show! Went way beyond all our expectations, absolutely recommend and our child is asking to go back and take friends!!

You’d think that in a kid’s production of this book there would actually be a snail and a whale - but in fact my kids kept asking “where is the whale?”!! This should not be a conceptual play - it’s for kids at Christmas!!! Terrible.

Great show. My son loved it

My 5 year old daughter didn’t think much of this production. She was disappointed with the costumes, to her mind there were non as the cast were in regular clothes and the set was pretty basic. She also didn’t feel the production followed the book- ie for her it jumped around too much and she wasn’t able to recognise the short verses of text when they came, I can see her point. It felt a bit disjointed and the story was hard to follow. Given the cost of the ticket we were both underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed.

The production is quite minimalistic and probably pitched at slightly older children than my three year old son. There were some sweet moments like the talking penguin and the few little dances but it was too long for most smaller children to sit through and not bright and visual enough. Perhaps better for the older age range.
