London Play
Cormac McCarthy's new play comes to London's Boulevard Theatre
Two men meet on a subway platform; the chance encounter instantly changing the trajectory of both their lives. Thrown together, their conversation quickly turns to the most essential and existential questions facing humanity. While their beliefs seem irreconcilable, the answers they seek could mean the difference between life and death. Multi award-winning writer Cormac McCarthy‘s gripping play explores redemption, faith and free will – can you be your brother’s keeper if he doesn’t want to be kept? His celebrated other works include The Road, All the Pretty Horses and No Country for Old Men. The London premiere of The Sunset Limited will be directed by Olivier and Tony Award-winner Terry Johnson, whose credits include West End hits Mrs Henderson Presents, La Cage aux Folles and The Graduate.

A fantastic 90 minutes of drama . Both actors were totalling convincing in the roles they played. I didn’t know the story before we cane to the theatre which made it more intriguing. Left the theatre in deep thought

Wow! Outstanding, just as fabulous as the last performance we saw there- Ghost Quartet. Love this theatre; it’s got a great vibe; and v laid back feel! The productions are superb. The theatre space is intimate and versatile. Really pleased you are on the London theatre map :)

We had an evening. What a stunning theatre, the play was beyond words and we rejoiced in being part of it. The theatre is tiny so you feel you are literally on the stage with the actors. Powerful play! Ten stars

A new play in a brand new venue. The venue is very impressive, all modern steel and traditional materials, with a nice bar/restaurant area. The theatre seating is arranged in a curve, with gentle raking and the stage at its focus, ensuring all have a good view. We sat centrally in the third row (B), which was perfect. The play is a quite dark, albeit with frequent comedic moments. Both actors were superb, wholly believable characters with pitch perfect accents too. It's quite a long one act piece, around 90 minutes, so they both had a lot of lines to remember and deliver, but they made it look easy. For me it could have been a little shorter, as some of the sentiments were repeated, but overall a marvellous piece of theatre. This is what theatre-going should be

This was my first visit to the Boulevard Theatre and I will certainly hope to return. The theatre is small, intimate, well furbished and comfortable. With the slight exception of a bar staff whose attention seemed to be elsewhere, the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. I found the play powerful in the bleak, despairing portrayal of the human condition which was reflected in the sparse set and uncluttered production. Both actors were superb, Overall it was a very enjoyable theatre experience which I look forward to repeating.

Outstanding. McCarthy’s dialogue was gripping, the two actors more than up to demands of ninety minutes of back and forth. Moving and compelling theatre.

90 minutes of a masterclass in acting by two awesome actors - we came away questioning but satisfied. Well recommended!!

I was simply blown away by this play. I'd never been to the Boulevard, which was an amazing experience in itself; but Cormac McCarthy's play was, in its quiet way, devastating. I'm a hardened theatre-goer, seeing 40 or 50 plays every year, but I can't remember when I've seen performances as powerful as those given by Gary Beadle and Jasper Britton: nuanced, never over-the-top, and utterly, utterly convincing. At play's conclusion I, like 'Mr. White', had tears in my eyes. Congratulations to the cast and creatives for a terrific experience.

Excellent intimate venue and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The play was excellent and well acted by both leads. Even though it was a single act and this lasted for 90 minutes, we were engrossed all the way through.

Great theatre, extremely comfortable. Writing good, acting good, staging flat, direction flat.
